When to use it

Use setup when you are new to Overclock or want to review an existing installation. Tell it the work you want help with so the recommendation can focus on useful workflows and avoid overlapping packages.

How it works

Figure 01

Start with what you need and what is already installed.

  1. Inventory

Inspect plugins and relevant instruction metadata.

  2. Compare

Check your needs, package conflicts, and overlap.

  3. Recommend

Return a minimal set of installation commands.

ResultA report you can review before applying changes
The advisor stops at recommendations. It does not install plugins, remove packages, or edit instruction files.

The advisor checks which plugins are installed and reads relevant instruction metadata, then asks only questions that could change its recommendation. It checks package conflicts, overlapping standalone skills, installation scopes, and hooks.

It returns installation commands and can suggest minimal project instructions. The recommendation describes the proposed changes so you can review them before applying them. User-level instruction metadata is excluded unless you opt in.

An example request

Ask your agent

“Use the setup advisor. I want to retain lessons between sessions and improve how I handle PR feedback. Check what is already installed and recommend a minimal setup.”

This illustrates a request you can adapt; it is not a transcript of a completed run.

A tailored list of packages and commands, including conflicts or duplication to resolve before installation.

Install and use

The skill’s identifier is setup. It ships in the overclock-setup plugin. In Claude Code, first add the Overclock marketplace, then install the package:

/plugin install overclock-setup@overclock

For a standalone installation, keep the skill directory and its bundled resources together. The repository also includes per-skill Codex metadata. Read the full skill instructions for its exact workflow and supporting files.

What to keep in mind

The advisor is report-only. It does not install or remove plugins or write instruction files.

The current inventory and command renderer target Claude Code. The underlying skill collection also includes Codex metadata, but that does not make the advisor a universal installer.

  • Lessons learned — Turn a correction into a reusable lesson, and keep repeated lessons up to date.
  • Resolve PR feedback — Turn a GitHub review into justified local fixes and clear draft replies.
